Your Local Unit
Local PTA and PTSA units are chartered by the Hawaii State PTSA, and fall under the Hawaii State PTSA's 501(c)(3) non-profit status. There are some basic requirements that must be met to ensure that your local unit remains in good standing. Be sure to check out our Hawaii Local Units Standards of Affiliation requirements to ensure that you are in compliance. Safeguard you non-profit status - it is precious!
Important Financial Requirements
- IRS 990 form – must be filed annually
- Hawaii GET:
- Form G-49, annual reconciliation – usually due July 20th
- Hawaii Dept. of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) – annually, if required
- Hawaii State PTSA Unit in Good Standing Form – due by February15th
- Two signers on each check
PTA Bylaws
- Local unit bylaws align with the Hawaii State PTSA bylaws, which align with the National PTA
- Local unit bylaws must be updated and/or amended every 2 - 3 years
- To update bylaws, be sure to utilize the Bylaws Template on the Hawaii State PTSA website
- Email redline version to the Hawaii State PTSA at [email protected]
- Bylaws must be reviewed and approved by Hawaii State PTSA bylaws committee prior to membership vote
